MERMAID Containerships

MERMAID Containerships

Our MERMAID container feeders are modern and highly efficient feeder containerships developed in close cooperation with owners and operators. The Mermaid design platform is wide-beam, high-intake, shallow-draught containership designs with best-in-class fuel efficiency, and latest technology for environmental compliance. With the wide-beam design, the Mermaid containerships typically has higher container intake and higher transport efficiency than traditional sized vessels.

The MERMAID feeder platform has been provided to Cosco Zhoushan Shipyard (China), who has constructed seven 3600 TEU vessels for Maersk Line and four 3500 TEU vessels for CMA-CGM. All vessels have been delivered through 2018 and 2019.

‘Vistula Maersk’, which was the first vessel delivered to Maersk Line A/S was nominated as Danish Ship of the year 2018.

The design platform ranges from around 1500 TEU to 5,600 TEU and includes a novel vertical bow design resulting in 5-10% improved transport efficiency for typical operational profiles. The vertical bow with an integrated bulbous bow provides an efficient performance across a wide range of speeds and draughts, which is typically most effective for operation of containerships. The hull forms are developed in close dialogue with hydrodynamic specialists at Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co. Ltd., who have vast experience developing fuel-efficient hull forms for merchant vessels.

The design platform offers large flexibility as regards speed, reefer intake and cranes depending on Owner’s requirements.  The designs comply with NOx Tier III regulations using SCR technology. The design of the deck house, casing and engine room includes spacing for scrubber, which can be included or retrofitted at a later stage.

The designs are propelled by a two-stroke diesel engine and a large propeller with latest blade design, and the vessels have a high-efficient rudder providing high energy efficiency and good maneuverability. Upon request, most of the design are also offered with an option for dual-fuel LNG.

The design portfolio includes containerships in various sizes as outlined in the table below. For further information, please contact our sales team
