We have proven design and engineering expertise in HOW to transform new ideas into new ship types. OMT’s design and engineering experts have experience that traces back to the Maersk Shipyard in Denmark. Some of our most experienced engineers have been involved in the development of more than 30 new ship classes. OMT engineers have designed frigates, offshore patrol vessels, RO-RO vessels, offshore supply ships, containerships, bulk carrier tankers and tugs. Not 30 concept designs, not 30 sistership designs – but 30 completely new classes of ships – each new to the market. And our younger engineers are on track to continue this tradition of designing brand new ship classes.

Our ship designs have often inspired our competitors – we see that as a sign that the market recognises our ability to innovate. Bringing a new class of ship to life from concept to commissioning requires experience. And doing it every 18 months requires solid design processes.

Conceptual design is not just about designing smart ships. It is also about having focus on construction and production ability from day one. Ships that can be built by robots and assembled quickly needs construction strategy attention from day one in the project. When the OMT engineers were part of the shipyard, design for production was important. Today, our OMT ships are designed to be built in shipyards around the world – design for production is no longer just important – it is crucial.

OMT is set up to deliver full basic design packages in all our projects. We can also deliver complete detail deign packages and digital 3D models. We have the expertise and people who know HOW to create advanced 3D models to deliver zero-error output to production – but we prefer not to do this. Our belief is that this work should be done close to the shipyard. We therefore offer to help our clients set up efficient engineering and production design departments. Instead of doing everything in Denmark, we transfer design processes and design standards to where you need them. We have proudly delivered the HOW to many of our international clients. Instead of keeping all the jobs in Denmark, we help our clients develop jobs and competences in buyers’ countries. Doing some of the engineering work locally is part of our definition of defence procurement version 2.0.
